![]() While researching the zodiac for my calendar project, I found that the diagram of the Grand Cycle of Life in The Secret Language of Birthdays looked similar to that of the hero’s journey. This is where something like Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey can be so helpful, because it’s like a map that tells us where we might be on the path. Many of these communal supports have now faded away and those who are called to take this journey have to face it alone, and may feel a little lost at times. ![]() Religions and rituals used to guide us along, or maybe even guard us from, this experience. The journey inward is an emotional one… there can be bliss, confusion and potential pitfalls. And perhaps it’s better that way, otherwise we would never go on adventures. ![]() It’s easier to see the road after the journey than before. I didn’t know at the time where the path would take me, or what that quote from John Muir really meant. I took this photo in Palm Springs back in 2013, which was just the beginning of my journey inward.
